API Resources

Demystifying APIs

API stands for "Application Programming Interface" and APIs allow applications to communicate with one another.

Applications in this scenario include Alma and other third party vendor products who you want to communicate with Alma. The communication typically allows data such as user data, bibliographic data, electronic resources, order data, request data, etc. to pass back and forth between the applications in order to automate and make workflows more efficient and user friendly. Bulk operations, information output such as reports and lists, as well custom user interfaces can be created through use of APIs.

Your API Key, which is configured in your API Console found in the Ex Libris Developer's Network account for your Alma institution allows you to manage APIs and control how data is passed back and forth. The API Restriction Profile allows you to further protect and secure your library data.

Developer Network

Learn about using APIs, create and manage your API keys, share tips and tricks, and get answers from the Ex Libris developer community.

Bookmarklets Resources

A bookmarklet is a software application / snippet of executable code that is stored in a browser bookmark, and typically interacts with the web page that is open when the bookmarklet is clicked. (See Wikipedia and FreeCodeCamp for more info.)

These are very useful when reviewing and troubleshooting issues with your Primo VE view, and/or search results.

Cloud Apps Resources

Cloud Apps are easy to use tools that make use of the Ex Libris API to interact with your Alma environment. Cloud Apps may be added and applied to an Alma institution.

Basically, Cloud Apps are add-ons written by Ex Libris customers and shared with the community. Cloud Apps may add new functionality, create workflow shortcuts and/or integrate with external systems. Cloud Apps run inside the Ex Libris platform.

Anyone with the General Systems Administrator role can enable Cloud Apps for users in your institution.

Go to: Configuration Menu > General > General Configuration > Cloud Apps Configuration. In the Allow or Hide Cloud Apps section, you can choose All, Allow Selected or Hide Selected depending on which Cloud Apps you wish to enable locally.

Information about Cloud Apps are listed below.
